Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes

By Valerie Garcia-Vallejo

Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the American civil rights movement. King led many peaceful protests and guided the African American community to take pride in their culture and to provide justice and fairness to them. King is most commonly known for his famous “ I Have a Dream” speech, but many do not know that King was a man of many words. King’s words influenced others during difficult times, but he continues to inspire many others today. King always believed in peace rather than violence and ensured that his voice was always heard.  Below are Kings top 5 quotes.

  1. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
  2. “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
  3. “A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.
  4. “A riot is the language of the unheard.”
  5. “Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star.”
