Izumi & Me

By Camilla Gelacio

Over the past few months, I’ve developed a new obsession: matcha. One of my favorite spots for matcha drinks is Izumi Matcha in Cupertino, and as a dedicated fan, I’ll be reviewing the drinks I’ve tried.

1. Honey Matcha Latte

This was the first drink I ever tried at Izumi, and it’s the one that made me fall in love with matcha. It’s my favorite and go-to order, always with the standard adjustments. The drink perfectly balances sweetness while maintaining a bold and vibrant matcha flavor.

2. Creme Brulee Matcha (Tornado)

Izumi’s signature drink, the matcha tornado, is a frozen dessert style matcha shake swirled with matcha and creme brulee. It’s not only delicious, but the drink is aesthetically pleasing which makes for a stunning Instagram photo. While I do enjoy this drink, I’ve found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste over time. However, I still order it occasionally and would definitely recommend it to first time visitors.

3. Strawberry Matcha Latte

I’ve only tried this drink a handful of times, as I usually prefer the regular matcha latte. However, if you’re new to matcha, this is a great way to try it. The strawberry flavor stands out while still complementing the matcha. It’s a favorite among my friends for good reason.

Honorable Mention: Matcha Soft Serve

Izumi’s matcha soft serve is incredibly refreshing, with a rich, matcha flavor. My parents absolutely love it, and if you’re a fan of ice cream and matcha, this is a must-try.

I used to be someone who thought matcha tastes like grass, but trying Izumi completely changed my perspective. Their matcha is high quality, unlike other cafes such as Starbucks. Although the lines can get long due to its growing popularity, it’s definitely worth the hype. I highly recommend Izumi to anyone looking for a great matcha spot or just wanting to give matcha a try. I love Izumi!
