Battle of the Breads

By Delaney Pound

Bread is one of the most popular components for any meal of the day. Rolls are given at casual restaurants, toast is eaten for breakfast, and you can’t have a sandwich without the bread. There are so many different types of bread, which makes it so versatile and loved by most people. Here are some of my ratings!

Texas Roadhouse Rolls

9/10

Wow! These rolls are delicious! When you go to a Texas Roadhouse, you always receive a welcoming basket of these fresh, steaming masterpieces that are very addicting. They are paired with cinnamon butter on the tops and in a small side cup, which goes very well with the rolls. The cinnamon butter is a bit sweet, which I do not particularly love, which is why I am giving them a 9/10, but nonetheless, they are amazing!

Baguettes

7.5/10

Unpopular opinion, but baguettes are not all that! I prefer more doughy bread compared to slices of bread with more of a crush, and baguettes are mostly crust. They are great when they have just left the oven and are still soft, but five minutes later they are as hard as a rock. They are good for making sandwiches, but when they are plain or buttered, I do not enjoy them very much. They get a 7/10 from me.

Sourdough Boule

1000/10

Omg! These sourdough boules are soooo good. They have the most perfect ratio of crust to dough, and the inside is soft for a long time after being warmed in an oven. They are used for bread bowls, can be sliced and eaten alone, and are used for sandwiches if they are sliced correctly as well. What can’t they do? Sourdough boules are amazing. 1000/10.

Wheat Bread

Ew.

For this one, there is no explanation needed. It is dry and gross, and I cannot handle it. It is healthier, which is a bonus and a common reason for other people’s enjoyment of consuming this monstrosity, which is great! I, however, will not be eating that. Ew.

Croissants

7/10

Yummy! Croissants are a very versatile bread and can be used as a side, for sandwiches, filled and eaten for dessert, and for snacks. They are usually pretty sweet and are very flaky, which I don’t enjoy very much. They are very messy, and their sweetness is great when they are filled, but not alone. Overall, croissants are lovely, and I rate them a 7/10.

There are so many different types of bread, and most of them are used in lots of different ways. In general, their popularity is understandable as there are many different flavorings and styles that change their taste and appearance heavily. Aside from people with allergies, there is most likely some bread you will enjoy, and I know I do!
