In 2024, many animals have caught the hearts of millions on Tiktok for showcasing their charming personalities to adorable attributes. Moo Deng, a pygmy hippopotamus, and Pesto, a bay king penguin, the two most notable animals gained rapid popularity within the last months. However, before Moo Deng and Pesto, there was another: He Hua. He Hua, also known as Hua Hua, first gained popularity in 2023 but has recently gone viral again worldwide. Born on July 4, 2024, and known for looking like “a triangle rice ball,” Hua Hua has caught the attention of millions globally for her surprising size and silly mannerisms (Today Online).

Hua Hua resides in the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The research facility was first found in 1987 by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and aims to protect and breed red pandas, giant pandas, and other endangered wild animals. Over the years the facility has grown in size and is now the largest panda captive and research center in the world and currently sanctions over 150 pandas (Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding ).

The facility is known for housing many large pandas, but Hua Hua is by far the most famous one. Hua Hua first gained popularity in 2023 due to her small size. When first born, Hua Hua weighed approximately 200 grams, a significant difference from her twin sister, He Ye, who weighed approximately 167 grams. Despite showing signs of superior strength at first, Hua Hua quickly became the smaller twin of the two as she and her sister grew up. Due to her short legs and double-rowed teeth, Hua Hua struggles with eating and climbing; thus, making her smaller and shorter compared to her twin. In addition, she also faces development delays which make it harder for her to act quickly in comparison to her other panda peers. Regardless of these challenges, Hua Hua preserves and continues to practice her climbing skills weekly and steals food from her sister frequently.

With her rapid growth in popularity over the past 2 years, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding sees more and more visitors by the month. With the surplus of visitors, the facility now has the ability to show even more carefor the animals with the help of greater interest from the public. Undoubtedly, Hua Hua will continue to gain popularity and bring more awareness to the spectacularness and wonder of amazing animals worldwide.
