Ranking Percy Jackson Book Covers

By Hailey Kearns

Until fourth grade, I hated reading. No books ever particularly caught my attention and when one did it was never in a series so I would be stuck again mindlessly reading other boring books until I found a decent one. That was until I discovered Percy Jackson. However, it was not the description that caught my eye at first but rather the cover. Intrigued by the bold blue colors and font, I wondered what the book could possibly be about–which is exactly why book covers are so important. Book covers must stand out because if not, then no one will ever feel the impulse to pick it up and read its description. If it weren’t for the captivating book cover of Percy Jackson, I would have never discovered my love for reading and Greek mythology. Thus, here is my ranking (from worst to best) of the variations of the covers of Percy Jackson:

 6. Percy Jackson 2013 Reissue, Paperback Edition Book Covers

These book covers look like they were done last minute. Why are almost all of the covers of Percy’s back? His poses may be dynamic yet he comes off still as very timid and un-hero-like. Lacking creativity, the only thing that stands out are the bright colors but that yellow looks hideous. The last book in the series is too dark to be a bright yellow. I wish these covers took a more creative approach.

5. Percy Jackson British Edition Book Covers

Although most of these covers don’t show Percy’s face like the last ones, the dynamic scenes make up for it. I love how each cover showcases the hardest challenges Percy faces during each book. In addition, the different colors also make each book stand out on their own. However, it is very clear that these covers are outdated (the helmet as a prime example).

4. Percy Jackson First UK Book Covers

I have never seen these covers before but I am pleasantly surprised by them. I like the contrasting colors used in each cover and use of the circle center in each cover for unison between the books. Also, I am particularly fond of the lighting in the covers because it gives the covers a little spark to them.

3. Percy Jackson 2022 Reissue, Paperback Edition Book Covers

Honestly, I didn’t even know new covers had been released. The colors pop well and the simple yet intricate designs are refreshing. I especially love the cover of the first book because it feels very balanced and all the elements look like they were intentionally placed.

1 (tie). Percy Jackson Second and First Edition US Covers

Honestly, it was too hard to pick a winner between these two covers. Both of them are extremely dynamic and use lots of different colors. These two are by far the best covers in comparison to the other ones.
