The Floral Design Club is a newly established club here at Westmont. The club’s purpose is to help others learn about floral arrangements and sell them here on campus. The club is led by an amazing board—President Claire Calvillo, Co-President Katie Love, Treasurer Mia Keller, Secretary Abigail Mekonnen, and Activities Coordinator Jensen Oderio. The club hopes to expand and plan on selling more flower arrangements for school events.
Originally, the club was established because the president, Calvillo, was working on floral arrangements outside of school and thought it would be fun to make it into a club since there has never been a floral design club at Westmont. Love says one thing she loves about the club is that she gets to spend time with her friends and learn about floral design.
Not only does the club teach students to make floral arrangements, but to make add ons and decor. The club makes bows and fun crafts that relate to floral design. Calvillo also says that “ we hope that in the future we can sell different types of floral arrangements for different occasions and to have a floral design class”. It is truly wonderful how much work and dedication the club’s board puts into uniting the community through flowers.
They hope to sell more floral arrangements in the future; for example, WOFO ( Winter Formal), Valentines day, Prom, and future Homecoming dances. The club meets on Thursday, B-days in room 5. Be sure to catch them at any future club fair and follow their instagram page for more information about upcoming events and/or fundraisers.
