Over the past four years, the pile of Westmont-themed apparel in my room has overflowed, filled with jackets, shirts, and tank tops. My favorites, however, all seem to be from the field hockey team, which routinely cranks out new, innovative designs each season. To commemorate my last time playing with the team, I’ve reviewed all of the merch from previous seasons starting from oldest to newest.
2021 (Coach Lynn + Sugi):
Reversible Penny – 7/10: I like the big logo and design, but it’s super short so when you’re running, it’s a little too revealing at times…
Maroon Crewneck – 10/10: This has to be the most classic piece of field hockey merch. I’ve probably worn it at least 50 times and still love it!
PJ Pants 7/10: These are super cute and unique, but the words have worn off over the many uses. Also, since I’ve grown since freshman year, they are a little too short now.
Black Tank – 9/10: This is an underrated favorite of mine! I think the fabric is super comfy and something about the outlined lettering choice just intrigues me.
2022 Season (Coach Perez + Jarrett):
Reversible Penny – 2/10: This penny is so uncomfortable. Not only are the straps insanely wide, but the penny is super long and restricts movement in the lower body. I think this may be the only piece of merch I actively dislike.
Black and White Tanks – 10/10: These are perfect: comfy, breathable, and cute! I love the two color choices and they’re my go-to tank for practices.
Black Hoodie – 8/10: This hoodie is super cozy and high quality! However, mine is huge for some reason so it doesn’t keep me quite as warm as some of the others.
2023 Season (Coach M):
Reversible Penny – 8/10: This penny was much more well-fitting than the last; however, the straps are pretty long, which makes it hang dangerously low when running… Other than that, the design is cute and the Nike branding makes it look super professional!
Fluffy Quarter Zip – 9/10: I love this thing!! It’s so warm and fuzzy and has stayed that way even after multiple washes. The only issue is that it picks up lint and dust like crazy.
2024 Season (Coach Taylor and Trish):
Reversible Penny – 9/10: Similar to the previous year’s, this penny just has a different logo. I prefer this logo, but wish it was a little smaller on the front. Still a super comfortable option though!
Red Windbreaker – 11/10: This is the best piece of Westmont merch I own. It’s so comfy and it looks so cool with our uniforms!!!
Black Sweat Set – 10/10: I love the minimalist look and the sweat set is such a unique merch idea that I don’t think any other team has!
Red Tank – 10/10: I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the bright red, but I love it! The fabric is also super soft and the logo is nice and big.
