Released on November 1, Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker’s brent iii signifies the ending of their collaboration on their brent projects which encapsulate over five years of musical work. As someone who has been following the dynamic duo since their release of the original brent in 2019 and brent ii in 2021, I was extremely ecstatic that they were releasing a 10 song album together. One of my closest friends, Elise Katayama, and I have always loved the overall feeling of listening to the albums, which are a perfect snapshot of everything fall. We loved brent because it reminded us of a cloudy day driving in the rain and admired brent ii since it felt like being snuggled up in a blanket by a fire. We were so excited for the final continuation of the brent journey.
We were not disappointed. Filled with raw vulnerability and artistic beauty, Cutler and Zucker gorgeously represent a variety of deep emotions, from anxiety to longing to be loved, in their album. Despite being released less than a week ago, this album has become one of my top comfort albums because of its fragility and the pure poeticness of the lyrics. For example, in “and the government too!” the duo sings, “If you came here tonight/ And I looked in your eyes/ I would hold you so close/ If I ever let go/ I don’t think I’d survive.” Overall, it is safe to say that I will be listening to brent iii over and over again.
