Three Two One

Three Two One

By Averi Halbert

Three days cut into one
I thought three was too few
And then I found out we didn’t have a two, only one
Now I wish with all I have to go back to when we first met
And tell myself to enjoy it even more
Because it went too fast
And ended too soon
One more time I get to see you in the morning
One more time I get to give you the biggest hug I can
My eyes fall as I try to hold back the tears threatening to fall
But I can’t let them
Because it wouldn’t simply be one singular tear
It would be a storm
A tear for each memory
For each laugh
A tear for everything I love about you
And a tear for every time I glance to my side
And find it empty
And every time I get reminded of your absence
Another tear will fall
But not only one
Enough to fill a sea
And yet not enough to show you how much you mean to me
