Snooping For Pumpkins

By Hailey Kearns and Cami Yee

An iconic mini-movie, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, usually appears every October in elementary school classrooms accompanied by various fall activities. Despite being released in 1966, the 25-minute family film still holds an abundance of charm and nostalgia nearly 60 years later. I (Cami) still remember watching the Charlie Brown film in my class in 2nd grade and watching it back as a senior in high school felt just as enjoyable. No matter your age, It’s the Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown provides viewers with a lighthearted piece of entertainment perfectly suited for the fall season.

Fortunately, we had the pleasure of watching the iconic film during class together and thoroughly enjoyed it. A favorite scene of ours in the movie was when Charlie Brown and his friends went trick or treating and Charlie Brown continued to receive rocks at every door while his friends received handfuls of candy. We could not help but burst out laughing. Another memorable moment was when Lucy was bobbing for bright red apples at Violet’s Halloween party. Ducking her head into the bucket of water, Lucy attempted to fish out an apple with her mouth but instead caught an apple that Snoopy was also biting into. Angry, Lucy spit out the apple and began to run around in a circle and loudly scream about kissing a dog. I (Hailey)  found this scene particularly memorable because as a child I used to always anticipate this scene to commence and would laugh along with Snoopy as Lucy threw her anger-filled fit. Collectively we both found it interesting rewatching this short film together because we finally were able to better understand the jokes than when we were younger children. The mini-movie is a 10/10 for its colorful animation, humorous jokes, and playful plot.

No matter the weather, time, or place, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, always leaves you feeling content. We strongly recommend anyone to indulge in the short film because there is no doubt that it won’t warm you up and make you feel in the mood for the cozy spooky season.
