Although I have only started attending the club meetings this school semester, I can confidently say that KASA (Korean American Student Association) is a club you should go out of your way to visit. Hosted in Ms. Bachelor’s room (Room 36), KASA focuses on modern and historical Korean culture. Originally kickstarted during the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year, Westmont KASA invites all students to come and learn about Korean culture with their peers.
One of the most popular events under KASA’s activities so far is their spicy noodle challenge. Starring the Korean Samyang fire noodles, the KASA board collaborated with the ASU board to shed light on the club. With the sun beating down on them, the ASU and KASA board were still able to cook and distribute the noodles to most participants. With overwhelmingly positive feedback last year, KASA independently plans yet another spicy noodle challenge this semester, possibly with spicier options this time around.
Food challenges are not the only thing KASA focuses on. During their second club meeting of the 2024-2025 school year, KASA provided quality paper fans for club members to decorate. Although I didn’t decorate any fans myself, I saw several creative designs on the paper fans. If you want to see them for yourself, you can visit the Westmont KASA Instagram page @westmontkasa.
In my opinion, the best part of KASA so far is their social media posts. All of the skits the board members film on Instagram to promote the meetings have been hilarious. In other words, you can see the time and effort the KASA board takes to educate the student body on Korean culture while maintaining a funny and interactive atmosphere. So as the social media manager Claire Hwang states, “Come to the KASA meetings 🔥😼.”
