Drink Review: R&B Tea

By Isa Hunter Quintero and Sadie Evans

If there’s one thing me and my bestie Sadie Evans love, it’s food. Going out to try new spots or just get a late night sweet treat is a favorite pastime of ours when hanging out. Sadie and I are huge fans of boba, so this food court spot was a fun place to review on a peaceful Sunday off from school. Conveniently located in the Valley Fair mall, R&B Tea offers a variety of delicious drink options for boba lovers, both milk and fruit teas. Here’s our conjecture on both of our individual drinks:

Sadie’s order: Oreo chocolate milk tea with honey boba

Our rating: 7/10

This drink mimics an oreo milkshake. It has a simple flavor but it is effective in that it tastes just like the name, Oreo Chocolate Milk Tea, except for I don’t believe there is any actual tea in this drink. It is much more like a jazzed up chocolate milk, which hits the spot if you’re craving something sweet, but it definitely strays from the traditional tea flavor that is usually present in these drinks. I added boba pearls to the drink and they definitely pair well with the drink, but as a topping they weren’t the best texture for boba. They weren’t quite chewy enough for my taste. The only changes that I think may improve this drink would be better boba pearls and possibly using cheese foam rather than regular cream to cut the sweetness. Overall, this drink scores a 7.

Isa’s order: Mango matcha latte with mango popping boba

Our rating: 8/10

This tri-colored drink was not only pretty to look at but also delicious. I ordered it at 50% sweetness, which was perfect to balance out the strong contrast of the flavors. I was hesitant at first to order this interesting flavor combo, but after taking my first sip, I knew I had made the right decision. This is an awesome boba for any mango lover, with a fresh and tangy mango puree as the base. As a big fan of quality tea, I enjoyed the creative taste of mango and matcha mixed — my only critique is the quality of the matcha. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but could’ve been a little bit stronger as it lacked the earthy flavor characteristic of the green tea. As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed this latte for its balanced sweetness and tropical mango flavor, scoring a solid 8.
