Burning Down

By Aliyah Miramontes

Once a homeless content creator, Alex Warren now thrives off the music he makes. Alex started off his career as a YouTuber while he was living in his car with his girlfriend Kovur. He filmed funny and entertaining vlogs with friends while jumping between his friends’ couches when he wasn’t staying in his car. During COVID-19 Alex, his girlfriend Kovur and other friends joined a famous content house known as the Hype House. Soon after joining the content house, they all quickly gained popularity. After about a year of living in the Hype House everyone started leaving. After all their time together, the majority of the group has stayed in touch with the exception of two people, Thomas Petrouv and Mia Hayward. Everyone who lived in the original house signed an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) after the end of the group. They all remained silent about the reason for the disbandment until Alex.

On September 20th, 2024, Alex Warren released a song called “Burning Down” followed by an entire album a few days later. Since the release of this song it quickly gained over 113.9k views. The song was released the same day his NDA contract ended. Through the song, Alex expresses his complex feelings about the toxic relationships he has had throughout these years. Sharing how people took advantage of his kindness as well as his failure to take care of his own well being while he was treated this way. He promoted his song on all of his social media platforms, especially TikTok. While speaking about the song, Alex stated that it was about a specific content house that he was a member of and the maltreatment he and others experienced. Since the song’s release, it has also been confirmed that it was about Thomas Petrouv, one of the founders of the house. Information was released that Thomas had not only taken advantage of Alex, but also the other content creators in the house through financial fraud, demanding more money from than necessary while using it for his personal gain. Alex also went on a podcast to talk about more of Thomas’s actions, however, due to his kindness he held his composure and never said anything too negative or took anything too far.

I had been patiently waiting for this song ever since he teased it on TikTok and am so happy to say that I was not let down by the masterpiece he released. You can hear the rawness in his voice and the emotion in his lyrics throughout the entirety of his song. The way he sings with such intensity, not only in this song, but in all, is one of the things that make me love him so much as an artist. My favorite lyrics from “Burning Down” is “Someone you called a friend, Shows you the truth can be so cold, so cold”, a few words can tell a whole story you never knew. Alex never fails to write exactly what I’m feeling in his music. His lyrics mean so much more to the listeners than just a toxic relationship between two friends, they allow everyone to relate to his situations with their own experiences. Now extremely successful and married to his then-girlfriend, Kovur, Alex has come a long way from his simple vlogs. He just released his latest album You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 1) on September 27 2024, which can be found on all music platforms and has already had 18,616 saves on Spotify.
