Munch, Munch, Mango

By Mason Vargas

“MANGOOOOOOOOO”, my glorious friend and fellow Westmont student Armaan Keshava exclaims every single day. This abundance of excitement that Armaan and I burst into at the sight of mango is nothing to be undermined. Although the spontaneous yells of “MANGOOOOOOOOO” that Armaan and I share back and forth and stupid, yet highly comical statements that incorporate the word “mango” into them are confusing to the public ( how wonderful are inside jokes (; ), one thing will always prevail to be true. Mango is a delectable fruit that can satisfy anybody’s needs and hunger.

Did you know there are over 1,500 mango varieties in the world? Mangos stem from Southern Asia and have become a prominent favorite and sought-after fruit worldwide. In India, the mango is a symbol of love. That love goes nothing short of the love that Armaan and myself feel for mango. My fond memory of mangoes is on a hot summer on June 9, 2024. After a volleyball tournament, my friends and I indulged in some refreshing, cut-up, and juicy mango. The great thing about mangos is that you can eat them in different ways or variations. One of my go-to snacks right now is this dried mango my family gets from Costco which comes from this two-pound bag my family finishes in approximately a week. Not to brag but that mainly comes from me. You can buy mango from the store, or mango-flavored products; however, my favorite is undoubtedly buying a mango straight from the grocery store and cutting it up after refrigerating it. A perfect and ripe mango will fill your mouth with such flavor that comes from the perfect texture.

I asked some questions to my friend Armaan or as I like to call him, “Armango” about the fruit that has somehow stooped into our daily vocabulary. The questions and interview went as follows:

Mason: “What is your favorite fruit?”

Armaan: “mango”

Mason: “What do you love about mangoes?

Armaan: “tasty mango”

Mason:  “What is your favorite memory associated with mangoes?”

Armaan: “When i drank masons mango smoothie”

Mason: “What is your favorite way to eat mangoes?”

Armaan: “fruit mango”

Mason: “How is mango superior to other fruits?”

Armaan: “mango king”

I truly could not have answered these questions better myself. This wondrous fruit that leaves me in a state of contentedness every time I cross its path is known as a mango and anyone who is missing out on understanding the true power of mango is indefinitely missing out…
