Brat.

Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions in which are 99.9999% factually correct and should there be any debate regarding the nature of the album, I will debate. With this in mind, please enjoy. The review and things that followed after Brat.

Charlie XCX, a world-renowned pop music sensation, brings many new songs, ideas, and contributions to the music industry with her groundbreaking new album: Brat. However, the question that needs to be asked is; where did this sudden and overwhelming fame come from, and how did she rise to fame?

The artist released her first album in 2012 titled: “You’re the One EP” featuring four tracks; You’re the One, You’re the One (Blood Orange remix), Nuclear Seasons, Nuclear Seasons (Balam Alcab remix). However, she wouldn’t achieve the pinnacle of fame until her debut song “Speed Drive” featured in the hit movie Barbie released in the summer of 2023. This new song raised the charts for Charlie XCX and opened doors for her to expand into her newfound fame.

Exhibit A; her album Brat.

Her album, Brat, is about accepting and embracing imperfections within yourself and others around you while considering the chaos around you all at once. The album on the other hand was very well planned and thought out. Charlie opens the album with the song 360 which is objectively the best song on the album that shows the artist’s personality and beliefs, which comes full circle with the ending track known as 365 which in Charlie XCX’s words “… I wanted the record to feel like a DJ mix. And the fun thing is when you end the album and ‘360’ comes back in, it really does just feel like a continuation of ‘365’.” Below are three of my favorite tracks from the album. (with explanation)

1)   360

Okay, listen, the song 360 can objectively be seen as a work of art and an overall symphonic masterpiece. The song showcases the “it girl” mindset and shows the artist’s confidence, ideas, identity, and success within her career. The song has a catchy rhythm to it and can be seen at the top of playlists when they’re first drafted. Overall 360 will receive a 10/10

2)   B2b

B2b is one of the less-streamed songs on the album but still receives a high score because of the lyrical content and the flow of words. A common theme in a lot of Charlie XCX songs is the lyrical harmony which is seen throughout the entire album, specifically in B2b. Overall B2b receives a ranking of 8.75/10.

3)   Apple

This song in particular I needed to include on this ranking list simply because of the dance associated with this song and, again, the flow of the words. Apple has such an amazing beat which makes it easy to dance to. Apple has been the face of the album as the “apple dance” has become a part of brat summer which started because of the album’s release. Overall Apple receives a 8.74/10 (because it’s overplayed).
