‘06 Toy Picks

By Kendall Albrecht

Anticipating June 6, Westmont’s 2005 and 2006 babies reach the end of an era as graduation approaches. The sentimental seniors reflect on their fleeting high school experience and look back on their childhood while growing into adults. Staples to all young kids in the early 2000’s, these nostalgic toys will send you straight back to 2006, when the only troubles revolved around pausing play time for dinner and bed.

Pillow Pets

Creative and cuddly, pillow pets served as the perfect buddy for both playing and sleeping. The cute, soft stuffed animals easily transformed between pillow and pet with a simple velcro strap.

Silly Bandz

These colorful, squiggly rubberbands served no purpose besides revealing a fun variety of shapes when laid flat, yet 2000s kids hustled to collect and trade them. Seeking out the special glittery and multi-colored silly bandz, young people stacked dozens of them on their wrists throughout ‘06.

Zhu Zhu Pets

Zhu Zhu pets infatuated the ‘06 generation with their lively hamster noises and zooming movements. While the tiny, grippy wheels often proved a poor match with long hair, these toys satisfied the needs of every young kid who longed for a real pet.

Beanie Boos

With huge sparkly eyes and adorable names, Beanie Boo stuffed animals became a 2006 toy staple. Collecting dozens of them in all shapes, colors, and sizes, children could never seem to have enough Beanie Boos.

Razor Scooter

Zipping around their neighborhoods, kids in the early 2000s used razor scooters as their main mode of transportation when it came to playing outside. Although deadly when swung at someone’s shins, these scooters never failed to bring about a good time.
