Anyone that’s read my fun facts knows that I know quite a bit about history. In fact, almost all the books I read for fun nowadays are solely about history, primarily American history. That being said, every now and then, when the rain thunders down and the wind starts howling outside, while I’m sitting by the fireplace, I don’t want to read about the pacific theater, or Valley Forge. Once that weather hits, I stroll over to the dusty corner of my library, and look for one book in particular, Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve probably read the book a couple dozen times, and I never get tired of it. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it, and here’s why.
So many people I know don’t like fantasy because it’s too “fake” or too “magical”. To that, I wholeheartedly recommend the Mistborn series. The series revolves around the city of Luthadel, and the Final Empire, ruled by the dictatorial Lord Ruler. A small team of rebels, led by the powerful mistborn Kelsier, work to overthrow the Final Empire through trickery and manipulation, all while growing closer as time passes. Simultaneously, the team overthrows the Lord Ruler, saves a select few, has a power to eat different types of metal, and gain different powers.
Without a doubt, next time you’re looking for a book to read for fun, pick up a copy of Mistborn, and allow yourself to be immersed in the world of Mistborn.
