Black-footed ferrets: a brown and black, fluffy, ferret species. They are one of North America’s most endangered species. The species were thought to be extinct, but were rediscovered in Wyoming in 1981. Ever since, many efforts have been put forth to give black-footed ferrets a second chance. Some techniques used to try and repopulate these furry creatures include captive breeding, reintroductions to the wild, habitat protection, and cloning(🤯). Currently, there are around 300 black-footed ferrets left in the wild, and biologists are working to get that number to 3000, hoping to successfully recover the species. On a happier note, here are some fun facts about these cuties: they are very playful, especially when young, and they are North America’s only native ferret species! Let’s all hope that these cute, furry critters will recuperate soon!
