I’m not going to lie, I started listening to Taylor Swift as a joke. The specifics of that aren’t important. Regardless, I am now someone who, while not knowing all 10 albums, or all 13 boyfriends, will be loud and proud about blasting some ‘t swizzle’ while driving in my truck, despite all the crap I get for it.
As a proud country fan, I started with her debut album Taylor Swift, with some absolute bangers like “Our Song” and “Tim McGraw.” After that, I started branching into Fearless, but for a while, that was all the Taylor Swift I listened to (only every now and then). However, it all changed once I got my license and started driving the truck everywhere. Very quickly, my old playlists got very old very quickly. So, in hopes of finding something new, I put her music on shuffle and let spotify take the wheel.
I expect more of the same, peppy break up songs. However, when I stumbled upon “Willow,” I was confused. Why wasn’t there any catchy, loud lyrics. It wasn’t a song that I could blast with my windows down. But it was actually pretty good, and once I found out there were 2 albums just like it, I was ecstatic. evermore and folklore were amazing. I started listening to both of them, and despite some minor burn out, both those albums still have a special places in my heart.
That being said, as a Taylor Swift convert, nothing hurts as bad as getting called a fake fan, just because I haven’t listened to her for the past million years. But other than that, I’m proud to call myself a swiftie.
