Easy to spot in the 110 H, 300 H, pole vault, and 4×4 relay, senior Ethan Chuang is an essential part of Westmont’s track team. In the Westmont vs. Leigh dual on March 14, Ethan won the 110 H, and got fourth in the pole vault with a PR jump of 10’6″. He was also in the lead of the 300 H when the event, unfortunately, got canceled mid race due to issues with the clock. Additionally, Ethan does club track year round and decathlon (10 events over two days) as well as an attendance to Pole Vault Summit 2024 last January. He is a school wide record holder in the 400 M hurdles (arguably the hardest event in track) and part of the sprinter medley relay team that currently holds the title as well.
Interview with Ethan:
What’s your favorite event and why?
My favorite event is pole vaulting because it is such a unique event that allows you to launch yourself into the air using technique and strength.
What’s the hardest part about track?
The hardest part about track is the pressure to perform when running the 4×4 because it is the last event of the meet and oftentimes decides who wins or loses the meet.
What do you enjoy about track?
I enjoy getting to know the other athletes on the team and bonding over common interests such as calculating meet scores or techniques. Our off-season track program Zero-G has allowed me to continue to progress throughout the off-season and try new things like the decathlon, where you compete ten events for a score.
