Good Lord This Team Sucks

By Diego Mantelli

As a Bay Area sports fan, I’ve enjoyed watching the Warriors, Giants, and Niners win championships or come close . However, as a die-hard sharks fan, this year has been rough. With a final record of 19-54-9, the Sharks had a solid grasp on last place this season, after two ten game losing streaks, two nine game losing streaks, and multiple five game losing streaks, the sharks have been trying their best to get last place, and with that, the best odds to win the first overall draft pick. However, despite all the horrors and miserable nights that come with being a sharks fan, there were some positives. Let me dig deeper on those, so then hopefully I forget the horror show that was this year’s season.

  1. Prospects

One of the good things about this season was getting to watch the future of the team excel and develop. Recent draft picks William Eklund, Thomas Bordelau, and Henry Thrun all grew exponentially this season, showing lots of promise for the future, and showing off the skills of somewhat new general manager Mike Grier.

  1. Trades

Despite losing one of the best players and the face of the team, Tomas Hertl, GM Mike Grier had some amazing trades, getting new, young players like Klim Kostin and Devin Cooley, and dumping expensive contracts like Hertl’s. Along with picking up more draft picks, Grier has set up the sharks to have a promising future.

Despite the sharks being god awful this year, hopefully this is the worst of it, and hopefully we’ll be competitive in four years or so. And hey, at least we’re not the A’s.
