Many students at Westmont look to improve their college applications, searching for something to set them apart from alternative applicants. Of the many extracurriculars students can participate in—clubs, sports, competitions—volunteering remains an excellent way to show colleges skills such as leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm for a topic.
If volunteering is something you would like to add to your collegiate resume, Santa Clara County Park’s volunteering program is a local, well-structured collection of opportunities that fits a wide range of commitments and time frames. The county provides programs at all 28 of its parks. Here, you can search for the park, time, and type of volunteering service you might want to sign up for.
The types of volunteering vary from maintaining trails to clearing brush to prevent forest fires. For Earth Day, the county held a “Vasona Native Plant Garden Transformation,” in which volunteers transformed a bare plot of land to “strengthen the biodiversity of the park,” as well as make it look nicer.
In all, if you are looking for local, accessible opportunities to grow both our community and your college application, Santa Clara County is the way to go.
