No Pins In My Map

By Keira De Vita

I love to travel!

Well… I love the idea of traveling. I am always the first one up and the first one ready to hop in the car come the day of a beach or road trip. I romanticize the influencers on instagram, the more well off peers of mine who all travel—specifically out of the country.

I have never been out of the country. Hell, I have left California a mere three times. My party trick is the game “Never Have I Ever,” because I have not been anywhere. “Never have I ever been to Hawaii…” “to Disney World…” “to Europe…” the list goes on. Jaws drop and I sit pondering my childhood. I want to explore the world oh so badly.

I dream of traveling away from the confines of the “Golden State.” I love California, I really do. But I need to sea more. Most appealing to me is the ocean. As soon as the money comes and the stars align, I will blow any amount of cash I have to travel beyond the non existent walls of the United States. Anywhere with an ocean will suffice. Chatting up a storm, Maria Edrisinghe and I eagerly formed a detailed plan to visit my Uncle in Portugal for our Senior trip. I scroll, hunched over in my bed as five girls in bikinis with perfect posture show off their hotel rooms or their Day In the Life vlogs whilst traveling around the world. I save the video, and tuck that dream in the back of my mind.

Mark my words. Within the next few years, @keiradevita_ will be booming with posts documenting my experiences traversing across personally untouched regions of the world.

I envision the day when someone exclaims “Never have I ever been outside of the country” and I can finally put one of my own fingers down. The world is my oyster.
