During the break, I figured it would be the perfect time to try the strange dessert, chia seed pudding. To make it, I mixed up 3 tablespoons of chia seeds, a teaspoon of honey and vanilla extract, and half a cup of milk. My sister and I made three different flavors: chocolate, blueberry, and apricot. Overall, it did not meet my expectations, good or bad.
Taste:
Chocolate- 3/10
This was likely my fault for putting too much cocoa powder in, but that’s what the recipe wanted. It was way too bitter and the honey did nothing to cancel it out. If you aren’t aiming for something as healthy, I would suggest chocolate milk instead of regular milk.
Blueberry – 7/10
To make this flavor, I blended blueberry jam and milk. The mellowness of the blueberry was really enjoyable, I would try this again if someone more experienced in chia seed pudding-making made it.
Apricot – 2/10
I didn’t try this flavor, but my sister said there was too much honey and it was “mid”. She used apricot jam to flavor it, and I assume it didn’t have too much impact on the flavor.
Texture – 2/10
The feel of the chia seeds is slimy. It felt weird that I couldn’t bite down on them but I could feel each individual chia seed.
After my initial dislike of this pudding, I added the blueberry to some yogurt and enjoyed it much more. It is important to not rule out certain foods before you try them, so I would try it again if I tried chia seed pudding at a place that makes it professionally.
