Brilliant Baseball

By Madeline Crowley

Starting off the season strong with 16 boys, the varsity baseball team has a winning record of 4-1! With the majority, 12, of them being seniors, the team is very experienced and ready to dominate. So far the only team they have struggled to beat was Menlo Atherton High School, which they still were able to pressure to a score of 3-5. With the return to Westmont of head coach Tony Pianto after several years away, the team is grateful to have such a strong leader! Junior Vince Moreno describes Pianto: “I see him as a knowledgeable coach who makes the sport fun,” and with the connections he has already formed with the boys, “he’s helping us improve while also making high school baseball such a memorable experience.” So far senior Matthew Rienhardt, is leading the team in stolen bases as well as RBI’s! He was awarded the privilege to wear jersey number 8, given to players with inspiring attitudes, gameplay, and team leadership in order to honor the life of Kirk Vasquez. Additionally, enthusiastic red headed senior Tyler Risolia has the leading batting average of 0.571! The boys next competition will be against the Leigh Longhorns at Westmont on Tuesday, March 19. Stop by for a delectable snack shack hotdog and bag of chips, and support the baseball team on their road to a great season and CCS!
