As an avid fan of reggae music, and the legendary Jamaican icon Bob Marley, I was ecstatic to hear of the release of Bob Marley: One Love the movie on Valentine’s Day! I was given the pleasure to view this film the day it premiered, February 14th, and found myself amidst a packed theater! With a surprisingly short runtime, only 1 hour and 47 minutes long, it was nonetheless full of Marley’s most classic reggae songs and followed the story of his music career up until his passing. I previously believed I was a devoted fan of the singer, but after the movie I realized that there was much about him I did not know. The movie also opened my eyes to a little bit of Jamaican history and what it is like to be in the music industry with so many outside pressures. Sadly, I wish it went more into depth about Marley’s childhood and his rise to become a singer, or more about his family and the impact reggae music had on the world after he died. Overall, Bob Marley: One Love was a much needed tribute to the indomitable spirit of a rastaman whose music continues to inspire and remind us of the power of love and unity. It is definitely worth a watch!
