Fake Fame

By Keira De Vita

I have never understood the ten paged children’s books. Lily Goes to the Sea or Big Brown Bear’s Big Day, these ideas of listing out miniscule tasks throughout a span of time makes zero sense. The big brown bear sees a fish. The big brown bear finds berries. This is not literature.

A fake persona of credibility is handed out to these lazy authors who do not even illustrate their own books. Like come on, I wrote far more entertaining stories throughout my elementary career. Children want excitement, where did the style go?

It is never too early in life to whip out a good ol’ Dr. Suess book to read to a toddler. They may not understand everything, but that is not what reading is about. A parent or reader should portray emotion when reading. Besides a fake baby voice (which your toddler is sick of hearing all day) no emotion or emphasis comes from a plotless, boring book.

I petition to quit this ridiculous mockery of literature and expose the young minds of tomorrow with the books that shape the minds of past youth.

Take the iPad and a sad excuse for a book out of your two year olds hands and take them to the park or set up an arts-and-craft. Let us smother the flame of fake fame and end it once and for all.
