Dreaming of Italy

By Averi and Marina Halbert

Everyone has heard of the wonderful country named Italy, and nearly everyone has wanted to travel there at one point in their lives. Whether it be for the excellent gelato, the art, or the jaw-dropping scenery, Italy has so much to offer that it’s nearly impossible to resist the pull. We are no exception. However, our reasons for traveling there differ a little bit from most. There are few places, in the entire world, more miserable to scuba dive than Monterey Bay, and yet that is our most visited location. After traveling to Mexico over Thanksgiving break, we had a slight taste of warm waters, clear visibility, and just a much better experience than at home. Now, it’s all we seek. Itay has gorgeous locations to go scuba diving, to see new animals, and of course, to enjoy everything else Italy has to offer like feasting on its abundance of perfected foods like gelato, pizza, and cheese, and of course wine for out dad.

On our dream trip to Italy, we imagined touring the Cinque Terre, diving into the deep blue sea, and relaxing in splendid restaurants. Our trip will be hampered somewhat by our total lack of knowledge of Italian, but surely Marina’s 850-day Duolingo streak and our rewatch of “Luca” will help out there. After getting our fill of sunbathing, gorging, and touring, we will end our trip to Italy by visiting the Colosseum and seeing the ancient sites.
