Boys Basketball is Ballin’

By Sadie York

The Westmont Boys Basketball team has started the new year with a bang! Despite varying results in the preseason, the varsity team has gone 4-0 in the current standings, with their most recent win against our school’s rivals, the Prospect Panthers. Led by captains Tanner Chen, Matthew Schoos, and Owen Stratheimer, the Warriors have dominated their opponents with several 20-point lead wins. Most notably, victories against Willow Glen, Lincoln, and Pioneer have been a few player’s favorites. Starters Jacob Froman and Matthew Taylor agree that the team will likely make it to CCS, and are excited to reach those goals with the support of the consistent crowd. “I think our season will go great. We are a young team that has promising skill,” states sophomore Gabe Mathiesen. So far the basketball team has shown a huge amount of growth and has bounced back from a shaky start into an impressive winning streak. Make sure to catch the next game and follow the team for the rest of the winter season!
