Hobby Horsing: Stop Horsing Around

By Weston Kelly and Blake Kim

Competitive sports involving horses have existed since the Greek empire, and have remained a popular and entertaining way to show off the majestic creatures. From jumping, racing, dressage, and polo, there are a plethora of different competitions in which horses can compete. Contrary to the name, however, hobby horsing involves no horses. Instead, participants carry a “hobby horse” (a stick with a fake horse head on top) between their legs and perform the same acts that an actual horse would. The feats often seem impossible, yet are done in a ridiculous-looking manner.

The world record for a hobby horse jump is over 4 feet high. This is impressive enough, but the fact that it was accomplished by someone with a stick in between their legs elevates the outstanding nature of this feat. Hobby horses have actual talent and train physically, so we have decided to categorize this as a sport, unlike golf. The athletes competing deserve recognition for their efforts, preferably globally. Finland, the current hotspot for this sport, hosts a championship every year with travelers from all over Europe, and some from outside. The physicality required for this sport is unbelievable and impresses many of their fans.

Not only does Hobby Horsing require athleticism, like being able to jump high and land perfectly, but it also calls for outstanding technical ability. Being able to jump over Log Fences with the hobby horse in hand is difficult; it requires perfect form and they need to be able to ensure that the horse does not drop. The competitors’ unexpected ability to do the impossible impresses us, and the entire world.

Hobby horsing is a highly competitive sport for young adults, but this incredible game can be an activity for children. When working together, kids can learn valuable skills like teamwork and dedication, and it supports their imagination. Additionally, it’s safer than typical horseback riding, a great exercise, and the sport is extremely inexpensive. Children will be able to use their imagination and ride a beautiful horse, with its beautiful mane swaying through the wind. In the future, they may continue to play this incredible sport, or even move on to typical horseback riding.

Though Hobby Horsing may seem weird and peculiar, its need for perfect athleticism and technical skill proves that even strange sports can provide entertainment and exercise. Hobby Horsing is a highly competitive activity that has the potential to be a top 3 global sport. Additionally, this sport can be used as exercise for kids and proves to be less dangerous than actual horse competitions. Evidently, Hobby Horsing is a fantastic sport, which demands incredible athleticism, that we advise you to watch.
