As 2024 begins, the primaries are quickly approaching, and with that, the field has been narrowed down significantly. I’m here to give insight on all the current candidates, in order to prepare y’all for the upcoming Iowa primaries.
Republicans:
Chris Christie: Christie is currently last place in most polls, and has been the entire race. He stands very little chance of winning a primary, and even littler chance of winning the republican nomination. I expect him to drop out of the race before the New Hampshire caucus. Edit: I was right, Christie dropped out the day before the Iowa caucus.
Donald Trump: Trump is currently the front runner for the republican party, and despite not attending any debates, is expected to win the nomination with relative ease. One potential speed bump in the road to his nomination is his upcoming trial on January 10th, however his followers seem like to not be swayed by a simple lawsuit. I expect him to win the nomination after an extended fight, and if the polls ring true, he will be our president come 2025. He had resounding victories in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Nikki Haley: Haley is currently third in the Republican polls, but isn’t out of the race yet. She’s close enough to Desantis and Trump to stand a chance in the primaries, and has gained the attention of a wall-street superPAC. I would not count Haley out of this race yet, but she has an uphill fight if she hopes to win the republican nomination. I can’t possibly make any predictions in such a close race. She got beaten poorly in Iowa, but in New Hampshire she put on decent competition to Trump.
Ron Desantis: Desantis is currently second in the Republican polls, but has been losing support more recently as Haley has been making a solid showing. I expect Desantis to have a strong showing, but I expect the Florida governor to have similar chances as Haley, which is an uphill fight to win the nomination against the juggernaut that is Trump. Edit#3: Then there were two. In a shocking move, Desantis dropped out two days before the New Hampshire primary. He is now endorsing Trump
Vivek Ramaswamy: Ramaswamy started this year strong, but has been going downhill ever since the debate. Despite his fighting words, I don’t think he’ll make it past the Iowa caucus. Edit: TWO 4 TWO!!! Ramaswamy dropped out the day of the Iowa caucus, and is now endorsing Trump.
Democrats:
Biden is the only competitive candidate, and it currently looks like it will come down to Biden v. Trump round 2 comes November. If so, polls currently have Trump beating Biden by a decent margin.
