The Boy Who Lived

By Adam Sarsfield

Ryker Webb, a three-year-old boy whose dad left him alone for only a “brief moment” while playing in their backyard, disappeared without a trace. The situation is every parent’s scariest nightmare; without knowing where to look, it is impossible to know where a child might have gone. The only indications of Ryker’s whereabouts were a couple of turned-over rocks. Being an avid bug-lover, Ryker was believed to have turned these rocks over in search of bugs. His disappearance had lasted around two days, while Ryker was lost somewhere in rural Montana. Even in late June, temperatures fluctuated between 10-15 degrees. The conditions that a three-year-old boy had to go through in order to survive were so harsh that many found it nearly impossible. Ryker Webb was found over two miles away from his home with clothes that were neither snow-ready nor reportedly given as a part of the description when he went missing. A family visiting their Montana cabin for a holiday vacation was concerned over an alleged whimpering sound coming from their shed in the backyard. Upon investigation, they found the three-year-old Ryker wrapped up in the lawn mower bag.

There are many theories about what could have happened to Ryker throughout the time he was missing, and the creepy nature behind his disappearance all lead to the theorizing of different possibilities of what Ryker went through.

The first theory is that he was kidnapped out of his backyard by an unknown party. Although this theory could be true, authorities could not identify any evidence suggesting this. Many theorists consider this the most plausible theory because of the controversy that the Webb family originally reported Ryker was wearing more winter-eske clothing style, not a matching set of pajamas and no shoes.

Another theory that is less prominent and might just be my own theory is the idea that it wasn’t a creepy human or extraterrestrial visitor. Instead, it was the Montana trout population. These devilish fishes took Ryker from his home in order to hold the young boy for ransom money. You must look at Owen Andersen’s Anjali v. Trout Population for the in-depth lore behind these swimming devils. Everything makes sense when you realize that the trout have never been able to reach financial recovery since the economic crash of 2008.

Jokes aside, Ryker’s situation proved nearly impossible for him. However, due to divine intervention or plain old luck, the boy was able to survive. The disappearance of Ryker Webb is one mystery that will never be solved unless he can recall every event with evidence to back up his story.
