We’re All Wearing Red

By Gio Arteaga

In 2024, at the Olive Garden in San Jose, California, right across the street from Eastridge Mall is a table with four people from all different backgrounds.

First, Lana Del Rey sits at the end of the table, gazing admirably at Jennifer Lawrence, and proceeds to say, “Wow, Jennifer, your eyes are so deep, like a golden hazel.” Jennifer blushes a little but decides to just say thank you to not create a third-wheel situation. Trisha, at the other end of the table, goes on and on about how she’s doing with her new daughter, Malibu-Barbie, and being a new mom. She loves chasing her around, feeding her, and playing with her.

Jennifer, at the other end of the table, sits there and thanks God that she doesn’t have a child. Lana, however, strikes up a conversation with Trisha about kids and they get into a deep discussion about what’s it like being the mother to Queen Eliza—I-I mean Malibu-Barbie!

I, however, just sit there with my jaw on the floor because how does Lana always look so perfect in her garden dresses? In reality, she could wear a trash bag and I would still think she looks stunning.

This table is one for the ages, the vibrant mixture of beautiful and powerful women makes me think, “How did I even get here?”
