The Life We Shared

By Cat Kemp

On the mantle of my childhood home

Christmas lights and kiddy photos lie

But what’s a home without the chime of your collar

Or the patter of your paws on time-worn hardwood?

The house feels empty and the bedding untouched

Your little body made the house feel whole

But now lies forever on the decorated mantle

A reminder of the life we shared
