Shohei Ohtani is the modern-day Babe Ruth, and he’s been making history ever since he stepped foot on the baseball diamond in an Anaheim Angels uniform. The two-way phenomenon has put up crazy numbers, able to put up a career batting average of .274 and 171 home runs as well as a career ERA of 3.01. Most batters attempt a batting average of above .250 and most pitchers hope for an ERA less than 5. He’s one of the best in the league, if not the best in the league.
On December 11, 2023, the superstar signed a 700 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers—setting a new record for the most expensive contract in all of baseball ever. Even more surprising, the money is divided into 2 million per year and then 680 million for the last year. This means that Ohtani will most likely retire as a Dodger, as the last year will prove to be a burden to other teams. Joining the Dodgers, he hopes to fulfill a World Series win; something that his previous team was notorious for not being able to do.
