AOTI: Dashing Demsin Bet Varda

By Adam Sarsfield

Third-year team captain of the Westmont boys varsity soccer team, Demsin Bet-Varda, has been working hard as the defense leader of the team to help them achieve their goals of making and winning the Central Coast Section. Standing at 6’0 feet tall and weighing in at 180 pounds, Demsin has been training to be in the best shape possible for all of his soccer seasons. I talked with Demsin about his time playing soccer, his main sport, and discussed other details about his life.

How long have you been playing soccer?

I’ve been playing for 12-13 years

What position do you play in soccer?

I play at centerback

Do you play any other sports, and if so, what other sports?

I play football and track, but only for Westmont

What’s your favorite memory?

My favorite memory would be making it to the CCS finals last year and also winning the Surf Cup [a club league award] a few years back

Who would you thank for your success?

My coaches and teammates

What are your goals for your sport?

I want to play for as long as I can.

Where do you plan on going to college?

I plan to attend a junior college for two years and then transfer to a school in southern California.

Will you play your sport in college?

I might play soccer for fun in college, but I think I might kick for football

Even while mainly focusing on his soccer abilities, Demsin has built up an impressive football resume, becoming a 4-star athlete in the kicker position. Hopefully, Demsin can continue his soccer and football career as he enters the collegiate level.
