Perfect Priscilla

By Valerie Garcia Vallejo

The director Sofia Coppala, and A24, an entertainment company, are both truly the masters of creating spectacular movies. On November 3, 2023, Priscilla, directed by Sofia Coppola hit the theaters. Now, I know what you may be thinking, “Why would a movie about Priscilla Presley be made?” Well simply, the answer is that her life was over romanticized. Finally, we get to see what her life was like being married to the rock and roll king himself, Elvis Presley, played by Jacob Elordi. The movie, written by Sofia Coppola, with information from Priscilla Presley’s book Elvis and Me, depicts what life was like for young Priscilla – played by Cailee Spaney- as she was falling in love with a rock and roll legend. With young Priscilla, played by Cailee Spaney the film exposes how at a young age, she had to deal with the emotional absence from her partner as well the abuse she encountered. Through doing so, it is revealed how Elvis treated his young bride and how many years she had to put up with it.

Priscilla’s story is truly remarkable and gets you thinking about what life is like for women who are married to musicians. Additionally, the mesmerizing film makes one think about how most women must deal with unfairness in society, just like Priscilla.

Overall, the movie deserves a 9/10; it certainly took on their roles and gave an excellent visual and representation of Priscilla’s books, as well as her difficult life. I do not want to spoil the movie, so, if you have not yet watched it, I definitely recommend it!
