TikTok Takeover?

By Adam Sarsfield

When surrounded by biased and untrustworthy news, there is hardly any way for the teens and young adults of the future to trust any information they receive via news channels. One outlying creator by the name of Jeff Jackson has emerged as a source of information that many deem trustworthy. Finding stardom on the platform TikTok, Jackson is a well-liked and respected creator who does not seem to push any particular narrative, instead opting to report any news he hears while being a Congressman. Having served in the Army since 2002, Jackson was able to garner a very strong political approval from many veterans. This approval paved the way for him to become a United States Congressman from 2014 until September 10 of this year. His congressional removal had not followed any recent canceling or prosecution but was instead the consequence of the April 28, 2023 decision by the North Carolina Supreme Court to legalize gerrymandering*. (*Gerrymandering is the manipulation of a Congressional Map in order to flip the seats from one party to another by redrawing the boundaries of each District). This process is the keystone blocking Jeff Jackson from having a fair chance at rewinning his position. However, after discovering the new districts, Jackson took to TikTok and announced his candidacy for the Attorney General Position in North Carolina. Having been a mostly Republican-supporting state in the 2020 election, Jackson faces the troubling task of not only winning over the majority of the population but also finding time to continue his main rise to fame in his TikTok career.
