Matt Gaetz may be the most hated man in congress right now.
First of all, he has several allegations against him of sex trafficking and having sexual relationships with minors, which is very bad. He is also currently being investigated for house ethics committee for the allegations that are against him.
Second, he brought forth a motion to vacate against speaker of the house Kevin McCarty, and with the help of democrats and 8 republicans, he managed to remove Kevin McCarthy, starting a domino effect of events. McCarthy, while definitely not being a centrist, was willing to work with democrats for the good of the United States, as seen with the two large budgets he passed as speaker of the house. Due to his morals, Gaetz and seven other Republican representatives voted to vacate the speaker seat, starting a three week ordeal in which the Republican Party attempted to find a new speaker. Now, after three weeks of chaos and infighting, the house finally has a speaker, Mike Johnson. The issue is, Johnson is as far from the center as anyone, leaving a lot of people unsure about the foreseeable future.
Matt Gaetz definitely takes the cake of being the largest turkey on Capitol Hill this year, and possibly of all time.
