When making a gingerbread house, my kitchen tends to get rather messy. We buy a gingerbread house kit from Trader Joes (my favorite place ever) and make it a few weeks before Christmas. As soon as we buy it, I begin to build the gingerbread house. I unpackage the kit, and take out the contents of the kit; the gingerbread parts, the powdered sugar, the sprinkles, the gummies, and m&ms. To make the icing, I add vinegar and/or lemon juice to the powdered sugar, which becomes a sticky substance I use to attach the pieces of gingerbread together. Once I have the basic structure down, I start to add the decorations (this kit comes with like 3 sugar people and a gingerbread tree, it’s so cute!), while my kitchen progressively gets more messy. By the time I have finished, the kitchen is a disaster, but the gingerbread house is absolutely beautiful. I place the gingerbread house on a fancy plate and put it on a stand next to the Christmas tree, and that’s where it stays until Christmas passes.
