Peppermint Paradise: Christmas Treats

By Kendall Albrecht

Although Thanksgiving offers the perfect excuse to indulge in numerous delicious dishes, the real treats arrive once the turkey departs. Christmastime eats, chocolatey and peppermint infused, leave me constantly craving more. A warm hot chocolate decked out with whipped cream and crushed candy canes hits the spot on any cold, winter night (bonus points if it’s enjoyed next to a Christmas tree!); and seasonal renditions of classic candies—peppermint Hershey kisses, snowflake-shaped Yorks, and red and green M&Ms—quickly satisfy a sweet tooth. Yet a Christmas-ready kitchen is not complete without the best store-bought festive food: Greater’s peppermint ice cream. Perfect for melting into coffee or hot chocolate, and delicious when consumed straight from the carton, peppermint ice cream satiates all holiday cravings.

However holiday indulgences don’t end here, innumerable home-made treats also ensure full stomachs and Christmas spirit. Cookies, gingerbread houses, and peppermint bark not only fill the house with a blissful aroma, but provide a fun and festive activity in the form of baking and decorating. Making Wintertime the most delicious season, Christmas treats spark excitement the second the weather gets colder and festive lights are hung.
