Children Suffer the Most

By Valerie Garcia-Vallejo

As the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine intensifies and continues to worsen, the children that are placed between the conflict suffer the most. As of November 3, there have been more than 3,000 children fatalities reported. The Israel-Hamas War is the deadliest conflict that the children of the Middle East have encountered, but why is it that the innocent must suffer the most?

The Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7, 2023. Since then, there have been great quantities of resources sent out by different countries to support the war, but what stands out most must be the resources sent out specifically to help the children. Most funds were sent through the Unicef, the non-profit organization. The organization focuses on the well-being of children around the world. On October 28, 2023, UNICEF sent resources for mothers and children that have been affected by the war. They have been updating the public with information concerning the conflict and have stayed consistent with the topic that children suffer the most during conflicts like war.

According to UNICEF, as children are being forced to flee Israel and Palestine, they are being stripped of their education and of playtime. They are unable to live their life as a child.  Children are being forced to live in fear and are being stripped of their human rights as electricity, water, and food supply are running low on both sides of the conflict. Devastatingly, there are children who are unable to flee the war and must continue living in horrible conditions and are continuing to live with constant fear.

Children are unable to understand what is happening with the war. It is unfair that they must live with fear and are missing out on what a child should be doing which is learning and playing. The children that are put in the conflict need help now more than ever. During disputes like war, unfortunately, it is always the innocent who suffer the most.
