A Christmas Classic

By Gio Arteaga

Picture this, a perfect evening, the sun recently set, positioned by the fire with the window slightly cracked, the cool winter breeze swirling about, drinking a hot warm cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream, marshmallows, and a red and white candy cane; all while watching everyone’s favorite movie Home Alone.

The movie Home Alone, written and directed by Chris Columbus, follows the story of an eight-year-old boy, Kevin McCallister, who is marginally overlooked by his family as the runt or the black swan. The movie opens with the McCallaster’s hectic journey right before their vacation. Kevin got into an argument with one of his siblings and was sent the the attic that night to reflect upon his actions.

He wished for no family at all.

That year for Christmas however, the family of 11 planned to go to Paris to visit Peter and Frank’s brother Rob McCallaster. However, when doing a head count poor little Kevin was switched with the neighbor’s kid, and while the family was leaving their driveway, Kevin was in the attic sound asleep. When Kevin awoke, he was met with a clean but empty house and presumed that his wish for his family to disappear had come true. He enjoyed every moment of this alone time until two bad men who have a record  (Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern) plan to rob and bombard the family home to ruin Christmas.

So what will Kevin do? How will he defend against these burglars to keep his home safe? And how will these men react upon seeing there’s someone inside the home?

Home Alone is a timeless classic I guarantee you’ve stumbled upon this film at least once in your life. Whether that be at home in your bed, with your family, or at a convention, the movie is everywhere. It’s absolutely hilarious and definitely makes you want to keep watching to see “what going to happen next?”

Overall I would recommend anyone watch this, especially during the winter seasons to get anyone in the spirit!
