ASB (Actually So Busy)

By Keira De Vita

Homecoming 2023; “into the Hocoverse” was a smashing success! With large amounts of participation and over 1,000 tickets sold for the dance, Westmont’s spirit has never been higher. Students checked in for spirit days, fierce battles of powerpuff occurred, and lip syncers danced the lunch away; all thanks to student participation, hard work, and dedication of Westmont’s very own Associative Student Body (ASB [leadership]).  While ASB enjoys functioning behind the scenes in order to draw recognition to students and groups around campus, the 65 leadership students work tirelessly for the first three months of the school year, putting on quite a show this year. With a fabulous rally, head Shivansh Kelkar states that the week had a couple rough spots but was “smooth sailing” by the time the rally came around. He and his committee truly did an amazing job! Aside from prepping for the week by painting banners, learning lip syncs, and putting together corners, the week of HoCo is no joke! Sasya Reddy (Senior class banner head), spent over 50 hours on the banner along with the rest of the banner committee. Sophomore Mason Vargas shines light on the exciting role he had as one of three spirit leaders for football games. Growing into the new position, Mason expresses that it was difficult to get the crowd loud, but once the spirit rose the Warriors were unstoppable. An ASB kid’s HoCo week looks a little like this: weekend prior to HoCo week is spent decorating the school, each day the leaders dress out for dress up days, prepare for lip syncs and perform, solidify dance plans and decor, work activities and football games, set up for the rally and clean it up, as well as setting up or working the HoCo dance and finally cleaning it up. This eventful week leaves all of us exhausted, but content with the payoff and reward for all of our hard work. Of course these events would not be possible without the student body participation so we thank you for crafting such a strong sense of pride and spirit around the Westmont campus this year. Go Warriors!!
