In Defense of Fall Fashion

By Anjali Nayak

I’m not a fan of the sniffling that comes with the spring. Nor the three month sunburn we’ve come to know as summer. And don’t get me started on the gloominess of winter. I live for the in between — the months of September, October, and November.

There are many reasons why I love fall. The crunch of stepping on a fallen leaf, the mornings after a night of rain, and of course, my earthy outfits I rock to school every day.

Fall fashion is insanely underrated, but when met with the phrase, most immediately jump to conclusions of “Autumn white girl” scarves and cardigan sweaters. Sure, if that’s your style, then have at it, but fall fashion is so much more than Pinterest moms.

It’s called sweater weather for a reason. Personally, I am at my best wrapped in a toasty oversized crew neck or hoodie. Sweaters come in different shapes and sizes, providing for a toasty getaway from the cold outside.

When fall comes around, I am in layers. Raincoats stacked on top of sweaters stacked on top of t-shirts keep me cozy during chilly walks with my dog. On my bottom half? Baggy jeans and a pair of converse. Mobile AND fashionable, fall is the best of both worlds.

The best part? All of the pieces I have mentioned are popular and simple. That’s the beauty of fall fashion — you don’t need an impeccable eye for style in order to succeed, just the basics. Fall is about the simple things in life.
