As we begin our 2023-2024 school year, new and returning Westmont students alike are flooded with information on what’s to come. To make things easy, below you will find the basics of all the major events we run throughout the entire year, with some advice on how to make sure you have the best time possible!
Week of Welcome (First Week of School)
WOW Week includes fun activities during lunch and ends with a Back to School Rally which will give you your first chance to cheer on your class this year! Try to sign up for a rally game or participate in at least one of the lunchtime activities, as it’s a great way to get involved early and meet some new people!
Home Football Games
There are usually around 5 home football games per year, and these are essential to attend if you want to experience the Westmont spirit! Always check Westmont’s Instagram before each game to find the theme, and come decked out in spirit gear to support our Warriors! You also don’t want to miss our Battle of the Belt rivalry game against Prospect!
Other Fall Sports
We also have field hockey, cross country, cheer, water polo, girls’ volleyball, and girls’ tennis seasons during the fall. Keep an eye out for tryout and practice dates, and don’t be afraid to try out a new sport! They are a great way to meet new people and get involved in the school community!
Club Fair
Toward the beginning of both semesters, clubs will set up tables in the quad during lunch to invite new members. Make sure to check them out and join communities that interest you!
Renaissance Fall Fest (and Renaissance Spring Fest)
Although freshmen can not attend Renaissance Fall Fest, it’s still nice to know what to look forward to! Renaissance is Westmont’s academic recognition program (not related to the European time period), and allows students who have above a 3.0, or increased their GPA by 0.5 since the previous semester, to participate in fun fairs! We will usually have carnival games, free food, and a slip n slide in the fall to celebrate students’ academic achievements.
Homecoming Week
Our homecoming week is busy, with a lot of different events going on, but is a great time if you take advantage of all the fun activities! First, students will participate in themed spirit days every weekday, with lunchtime activities in the quad. Each class will also perform a choreographed dance following their specific theme, called a lip sync. Make sure to have clothes in your class color prepared (Freshman-Gray, Sophomores-Red, Juniors-White, Seniors-Black), as we always dress up in class colors on the day of the rally. Homecoming Rally will be at night in the gym, and is an amazing opportunity to show spirit for your class, cheer on performances, and even participate in games!
Powerpuff Games
During homecoming week we also host two games of Powerpuff, or flag football. In these games, only non-football players can participate, with the underclassmen and upperclassmen each going head to head. If you plan on playing for the Westmont football team, don’t worry! You can join the Powerpuff cheerleaders, whose only requirement is that they are not a part of the Westmont cheer team!
Winter Wishes
Winter Wishes is a very special program for our school in which ASB has a chance to give back to our Westmont community. All students are encouraged to submit wishes they would like to have fulfilled, which can range anywhere from a Starbucks drink to paying for the month’s rent. Throughout Wish Week, ASB students come to classrooms and deliver the wishes of hundreds of students leading up to our Winter Wishes assembly. Similar to Hoco Week, Wish Week includes themed dress-up days and lunchtime activities throughout the whole week. Make sure to show your spirit as all dress-up days count toward class points! At the assembly, ASB grants some of our biggest, most meaningful wishes in the Bowl to end off an amazing week.
Winter Sports
Our winter sports are basketball, soccer, cheer, and wrestling. Make sure to keep an eye out for tryout and practice times on our Instagram and the weekly bulletin!
Love Week
During the week of Valentines’ Day, Westmont ASB puts on different lunchtime activities to encourage love for yourself, the environment, and others!
March Madness
Teams of 5 players play in a highly competitive 8 team basketball tournament during one of the weeks in March. Games are held at lunch on the outside basketball courts, with the final playoff in the gym. If you would like to participate, make sure to keep an eye out for the sign-ups as March approaches, as spots go fast!
Diversity Week
Westmont celebrates the rich culture represented on our campus through a Diversity Week held in March. Cultural workshops take place during study halls, which are an amazing way to learn about new cultures and try some delicious food! We also hold performances throughout the week from different cultural groups on campus. If you are interested in sharing your culture in any way with the rest of Westmont, keep an eye out for Diversity Week!
Battle of the Classes
Battle of the Classes is our third major spirit week following Hoco and Winter Wishes. Similar to the other two, there will be dress-up days and lunchtime activities for everyone to participate in. The week will end with a rally very similar to the Homecoming Rally, and the class with the most points amassed over the year will be awarded the Wally Cup.
Wellness Week
As second-semester blues start to set in, Westmont ASB hosts lunchtime activities to help students destress before exam season! Some possible activities include service dog visits, free drinks at break, and stress ball making at lunch!
Prom
Juniors and seniors attend prom, our second major dance of the year, toward the end of April. The most important thing to remember is to get your tickets early, since the lines get very long as the deadline approaches!
Senior Activities
The final few weeks of the second semester include many special events dedicated to the graduating seniors. Some of the most popular events include the Senior vs. Staff softball game, Last Recess, and a Blackout Rally!
