With football season kicking into full gear, back-to-school Westmont pride is at its prime! For all the freshman Warriors who have yet to attend a Friday night lights football game, here are some tips and information about what to expect!
What to expect:
- Students pay $8 to enter unless they have purchased an ASB package on their id card, in that case, they have free admission to all home games!
- You cannot bring in backpacks, and small bags are checked
- Come in tons of spirit gear – Most games have a special theme which will be posted on the Westmont Instagram (ex. Neon out, purple out, white out) which you can choose to dress up for
- Usually, free extra spirit items are handed out before the game (ex. beads, facepaint)
- Snack Shack will be open for food and accepts both credit and cash
- Games usually start at 7pm but the players run onto the field through the giant inflatable Wally helmet for warmups around 6:30pm, so plan on coming early if you want to see that
- Halftime: A colored smoke bomb is usually set off which matches the theme (if you don’t want to breathe in a ton of smoke or are sensitive to asthma, you can move away from the student section to avoid it), special performances by cheer, dance team, or other groups may also be put on at halftime
Football game etiquette:
- The student section is located at the far end of the home bleachers(closest to campus) and all students are highly encouraged to sit there.
- The first front rows of the student section are reserved for the most spirited students who will be cheering and standing attentive the whole game. If you’re not cheering, first of all, what are you doing, but second of all sit in the back.
- WE DON’T BOO at Westmont. Booing is not sportsmanlike and you will immediately be shut down by student section leaders and/or Mrs. Saldana. Don’t boo, it’s not cool!
- Respect wally! Sometimes our favorite mascot will be out and about in the student section. You can take pictures with him, give him high fives, and cheer, but please treat him respectfully.
- When kickoff begins the student section cheers and makes as much noise as possible until the player’s foot hits the ball
Some basic Westmont cheers to learn:
These may be hard to catch on to at first, however with time you will get the hang of them! When a letter is capitalized with a dash next to it, it means you yell out the letter rather than say the word it spells.
Party:
P
A-R-T-Y
Party party is on our side
Where is the party?
The party’s over here!
Repeat x2 or more
I believe (each phrase said by student section leader then crowd repeats):
I
I believe
I believe that
I believe that we
I believe that we will
I believe that we will win
I believe that we will win (repeated x5)
Westmont High:
W-E-S-T
M-O-N-T
