The Need For Expanded Food Options

By Amelie Arango

I eat the school food every day. For the past two years, I have tried almost everything on the menu, from orange chicken to fajita burritos. While the menu items sound good, the quality of the food is often unfortunately lacking. In addition, many vegetarian students only have one, maybe two, options for lunch.

The cheese pizza, an iconic staple, with its whole wheat crust and floppy cheese, is often the only vegetarian option. While it is mediocre at best, after about 2 weeks of having it for lunch, it quickly becomes horrible and you get sick of it.

Another vegetarian option for lunch is the pita bowl. These are rarely available, as they are made at Prospect’s kitchen and shipped over here. The carrots and hummus, freshly made at Branham, makes it a delicious meal. However, as I mentioned, they are very rare.

The last vegetarian option is the Mediterranean salad. This salad is actually very good, with feta, lettuce, and olives. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one of the few of these salads delivered every day, you will learn that it is a great vegetarian option.

Those currently are the only three options for vegetarians for lunch. In the future, there need to be more vegetarian options to ensure that everyone gets to eat, and gets a good variety of choices.
