Baker Babies

By Cynthia Andary and Jacqui McLean

“Baker Bobcats dressed in gold and blue…” is a school anthem still engraved in our memories reminding us of the wonderful times we shared as children. We had classes together, played basketball and four square every lunch, and most importantly we attended the catwalk together. We met some amazing people and teachers such as Ms. G and Coach. They taught our little developing brains valuable things that shaped us to be the High School seniors we are today.

Now, after 13 years, there are only eight of us. Eight loyal bobcats who have spent every year of our pre-college education together. We have seen each other grow up, been at each other’s side as we navigated elementary, middle, and then high school. Now as we look back on all our years of education, we have asked the former bobcats to reflect on their changes and growth.

What is your favorite memory from Baker?

Playing on the playground after school with my friends, or the Catwalks.

How have you changed since your Baker days?

I’ve grown a lot, I’m way bigger than what I used to think were “big kids” as a Baker bobcat.

Now, 13 years later, what are your goals for the future? Would you say you accomplished all the things 5 year old you wanted?

My goals are to attend college and get a four year degree, then I plan on going to trade school and eventually owning my dads company, Highland Electrical Construction. Yes, I would say I have done all the things 5 year old me wanted, I was the star quarterback for Westmont which was amazing.

What is your favorite memory from Baker?

Playing basketball in Coach’s tournaments and then being the first person to beat him at HORSE.

How have you changed since your Baker days?

I’ve matured a lot and become less impulsive with my emotions. Also I’ve really learned how to push through pain and overcome big obstacles.

Now, 13 years later, what are your goals for the future? Would you say you accomplished all the things 5 year old you wanted?

I’m going to play basketball in college and leave with little to no debt. I think I’ve accomplished most of what I wanted, but one of my goals is still to play college basketball so I’m gonna make my younger self proud.
