Seeds

By Sydney Reese

How do you make plants grow?

Starting as a seed, not yet formed

Placed in the ground, ready to sow

With time, hoping the seed transformed

But what happens if

The wind is too strong

The ground is too dry

The nutrients gone

Or what happens if

The water overflows and floods

The sun is too bright

The seed just never buds

Growing a plant requires time

Growing a plant requires care

You cannot simply throw a seed

And expect it to grow there

The seeds have to be

In the right condition

The ground has to have

The right disposition

What are seeds

If not ideas

What are we

If not the ground

The words of parents, teachers, friends

The words of social media and the news

Are all kinds of seeds

For which we can chose

Do we allow these seeds

To be adopted and accepted

To grow into our opinions

To grow into our head

Or on the other hand do we

Dry, drown, deprive

The intently placed seeds

Making them struggle to survive

Which seeds will grow thorns?

Which seeds will grow flowers?

Before being planted, can we tell

Which one nurtures and which one devours?

Once again,

For a plant to grow

The ground must nurture

The seed being sown

The seeds have to have

The right disposition

The ground has to be

In the right condition

So, the question I still propose,

How do you make a plant grow?
